May 2026

May has in large part been a time to breathe out and gather myself after a really rough month dealing with the loss and grief of my darling cat Göran. Her kids have gotten a lot of extra love from us for sure!! They've been just fine, but they're definitely settling into the new dynamic and cuddling up with each other more instead of fighting over mama.

Here's what I've been up to lately!

Programming:

I'm working on my genealogy site and managed to work out the templating with Python and Jinja. I did miscalculate the work needed to set up my family ID system, so I'm doing it manually while the rest of the data is fetched with my code. The manual work gives me opportunity to double-check the data and do some extra research in the process!

Making:

My cousin asked if I could draw up something they could use as a temporary tattoo at their wedding, so I've been drawing for the first time in ages. I feel so rusty but also excited to get started again!

Listening to:

While doing the genealogy data entry and research I've gone back to my tradition of listening through the musical Kristina från Duvemåla which is about a family emigrating from Sweden to Minnesota and it always hits.

Watching:

The last season of Hacks, which I only got into this year. Really enjoying the chaos, and how you can tell they had a blast making it!

Reading:

Old church books and Python documentation... The duality of woman.
I haven't read a lot lately, but I'm putting together a little re-read book club for the Engelsfors trilogy which was everything to me ten years ago. It'll be nice to hear from my old fandom friends too (since I'm obviously asking them to join in!)

Playing:

Merge games on my phone, while thinking about the themes I would put in my merge game if I made one. Obviously need egg -> caterpillar -> chrysalis -> butterfly.
